The New Columbia Heights blog only made a quick mention, but it made a big difference.
Back in August 2013, David Tveite and Matty Litwack first tried out the Drunk Show at Wonderland Ballroom. It was a hit. The small, sweaty, upstairs Columbia Heights dive bar was packed to the brim and the comedians quickly followed.
“You have to love Wonderland,” writes author Andrew W. Indeed. Wonderland Ballroom has become a staple of comedy in Columbia Heights and a proving ground for new concept shows.
Columbia Heights is an increasingly popular neighborhood for the arts, with Bloombars winning Washington City Paper’s Best Arts and Culture Nonprofit 2014… and 2013… and 2012.
Happyness Hours’ recent venture into the neighborhood included the relaunch of the Drunk Show at mad momos (3605 14th St NW), which is just up the street from the Pinch. The Pinch has played host to a slew of musical acts as well as some burgeoning comedy shows, including a comedy and burlesque show run by comic friend, David Coulter.
We look forward to much more to come in Columbia Heights in 2015 and send our best wishes to all the folks making the arts feel welcome ’round town.
